SUBANG JAYA: Instagram has always been a place where artists can jump boost their creative career by posting their art on the platform.

It’s no secret that as the years passed, Instagram has been getting more attention. Especially with the current pandemic, most artists can be seen posting but rarely anyone knows their story except for the tidbits from their photos.

One of the artists, Lim Zhi Lin, who graduated from The One Academy with a diploma in illustration. She has been posting art on Instagram professionally since 2017.

“When I first started my Instagram account, I didn't really pay much attention to it and just wanted a platform to post my art”

“Over time, I realised how useful it became as I was able to get jobs through the app. So, it became sort of like a good portfolio for me to post my artworks up on.”

Lim said that the art community on Instagram is not necessarily all rainbows and sparkles, with copycats lodging everywhere and reposters stealing other artists work.

Vanissa Foo, an artist who had her art used by someone to go viral without being credited said that “I can’t stop them from doing this because it is an online platform as everyone is free to share their artwork.”

However, there is a silver lining amidst the pandemic and reposters.

With the MCO undergoing, both artists claimed that there is an increase in interactions with their accounts as they have more free time to post and as people are being more active in the platform.

More importantly, Instagram provides a platform for most creative individuals to share their artworks, as well as to reach many potential clients for job opportunities, Foo explained.

The art community on Instagram continues to grow, with many artists placing their mark on the platform.
